The BLM has recently issued a policy to reduce rental rates for existing and new solar and wind energy development projects on public lands where acreage rents have seen dramatic increases (Section 3103 of the Energy Act of 2020) to promote responsible development in these areas.
Seven new utility-scale solar project applications have been received by the BLM near the Esmeralda substation in Nevada.
The updated Western Solar Plan identifies the availability of over 31 million acres of public lands across the 11 Western states for utility-scale solar project applications; however, only approximately 700,000 of those acres are anticipated to be developed by 2045 to meet projected demand.
The Crimson Solar Project is a $550 million investment that has the potential to generate electricity to power approximately 87,500 homes. The BLM (Bureau of Land Management) is also currently processing other utility-scale renewable energy applications, such as the Oberon Solar Project in California.
