State-owned telecom operator BSNL has installed nearly 12,000 4G towers and aims to begin nationwide 4G services by 2024-end, and 5G services by early next year, officials said. “4G sites are up in all 4-metro cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.
BSNL first announced the tender in November 2024 to kickstart 5G operations in Delhi. To deliver 5G SA services, BSNL will utilize the 900 MHz and 3.3 GHz spectrum bands. Initially, the rollout will target 100,000 subscribers, with plans to introduce fixed wireless access (FWA) 5G services.
According to official data, Uttar Pradesh leads in 5G expansion, with 8,451 villages equipped with base stations. It is followed by Maharashtra (6,910 villages), Rajasthan (5,393 villages), Bihar (4,601 villages), and West Bengal (4,521 villages), highlighting strong regional adoption.
